Kings Heath, Birmingham
Two fully furnished double bedrooms available
Rent: £490 per month
The house is a large, comfortable Edwardian terrace with two fully furnished double bedrooms available for lodgers. Lodgers share the kitchen, living room and main bathroom with me, and there's an extra loo downstairs. The kitchen has glass doors opening onto a patio and large edible garden featuring raised beds for veg, fruit bushes, and an asparagus planter. I am currently turning one area into a tapestry lawn - replacing grass with many different species of low-growing flowering and scented plants. I am very happy for everyone to enjoy the garden.
I am a retired academic, fascinated by difference, now striking out in new directions involving cycle instruction, making and building, gardening, writing and a part-time MSc course. I have an eclectic range of music playing a lot of the time when I'm at home, and I love Morris and general dancing (including in the kitchen), and film. It would be great to have a lodger who enjoys taking turns at cooking and sharing interesting food. There's a possibility of having a cat (or two) again. My youngest comes home from university in the holidays, and I am a host for Refugees at Home.
We have a friendly street 'club' through which residents organise things like food bank collections, beautifying our back lane, and - when we can - social gatherings. The house is 2 minutes' walk from a very practical high street, 3 minutes from lively gig venues, and 5 minutes from the closest of several local parks. There are good public transport connections into the city centre, and we're on the right side of town for the airport should that be needed. There is permit-free parking for residents.
